Portsmouth Theatres are celebrating a shared heritage and an exciting future together with a special open day with
FREE
events spanning across both Theatre Royal and Kings Theatre.
Join us for a special day as we
throw open our doors and invite you in for in a joint celebration of history, creativity, and community spirit.
Our two iconic theatres are coming together to welcome you behind the scenes.
At Theatre Royal enjoy

hands-on workshops

throughout the day.
Join us for 30 minute
History Tours
, get acquainted with behind the scenes of a working theatre with 30 minute
Tech Tours
. On the stage, the
Kings School of Performing Arts
, including
Resonate Show Choir
, will run 30 minute
Musical Theatre workshops.
These will include children’s dance, adult dance, children’s singing and adult singing. The studio will host
craft sessions
with Seekers Creates
as well as a
costume exhibition
showcasing some of the amazing costumes that have appeared on our stages and it’s an exclusive chance to try them on!
Meet our
expert archivists
and discover fascinating stories from over a century of performance history. You’ll also get an exclusive look at the exciting
regeneration projects
shaping the next chapter for Portsmouth Theatres, including our newly renovated Upper Circle.
Whether you’re a lifelong theatre lover or just curious to see what happens behind the curtain, there’s something for everyone, including children. A
special bus service
with our CEO on board will run between both venues so you can experience the magic of both theatres in one easy trip.
The first bus will leave Kings Theatre at 10:30 towards Theatre Royal, to continue every half an hour between venues, with the last bus leaving Kings Theatre at 15:30.

Spaces are free but booking is essential through the Kings Theatre website. Tickets are available in three ‘arrival from’ waves. You will need an entry ticket as well as a ticket to your chosen tour/workshop(s).

Throughout the day, filming and photography will be undertaken by Portsmouth Theatres and its media partners. The captured footage may be used for marketing, public relations, and promotional purposes by Portsmouth Theatres and local media. These materials may also be used to promote future Open Days at Portsmouth Theatres. By attending this event, you consent to being photographed and filmed and agree to the use of such images and footage as described above.
