‘Oh What a Beautiful Morning’ it is when Curly (Gordon MacRae) asks Laurey (Shirley Jones) to go with him to a social in ‘The Surrey with the Fringe on Top’, where ‘The Farmer and The Cowman Should be Friends’. Despite best advice from her Aunt Ella, Laurey accepts an offer from creepy farm hand Jud (Rod Steiger) instead. Meanwhile her friend Ado Annie (Gloria Grahame) ‘Caint Say No’ and is torn between cowboy Will (Gene Nelson) and peddler Ali Hakim (Eddie Albert). Not everyone lives happily ever after, but no spoilers here. With great songs by Rogers and Hammerstein, and choreography that changed how dance on film was produced ever after, this is a movie musical that will have you slapping your thighs and tapping your toes throughout. Yee haw!
