Beauty and the Beast at the New Theatre Royal is classic pantomime joy. This show has every element you could ask for within a panto. From the famous ghost busting bench, to modern day music, this show really does have it all!
Flying us away to France, the show begins with an incredible opening scene from Fairy Formidable and the evil Malevolent. After this we follow into the traditional storyline of Beauty and the Beast with some pantomime twists. Yet the love story between Beauty and the Prince is not always as it seems.
The costumes in the show are phenomenal, specifically Dame Dotty’s. From the French and American Flags, to a bottle of fairy liquid and lastly a Christmas pudding her wardrobe is the kind that just keeps giving. Not forgetting the incredible transition for the Prince as his curse is finally lifted.
At the end of the show there is an interactive sing-along with Potty Pierre and Dame Dotty, bringing out the audience members competitive sides. This sing along is great entertainment for kids to get involved with towards the end of the show, even including a chance for one lucky child to get the chance to get up on the stage.
The performance ends with a sparkling finale as everyone is involved in the celebrations of Beauty and the Prince’s wedding!
Overall, this pantomime is perfect for some light-hearted Christmas entertainment. With a perfect balance of humour for the kids and some slightly crude humour for the adults, Beauty and the Beast is a brilliant watch for all!
