Unleashing creativity

For over a decade, Portsmouth Theatres Arts Academy (formerly Kings School of Performing Arts/KSPA) has been empowering young people to explore their passion for the arts in a welcoming and inspiring setting. Whether your young person is looking to learn the ropes or already has some experience, our programmes are built to nurture talent, build confidence and help people shine.

The Academy

Join us on Saturday mornings for musical theatre fun! From Preschool through to Year 13 we offer age-appropriate classes:

  • Preschool & Reception: a gentle introduction to musical theatre including movement, song, and coordination

  • Years 1-3: mixed musical theatre skills: combining performance styles in a fun, blended class

  • Years 4-13: separate, focused classes in acting, singing and dancing, helping to develop strength in each discipline. Separated into age groups

Plus, throughout the year:

  • Exciting theatre trips

  • Guest sessions with external theatre professionals

  • Opportunities to perform on stage in productions at Kings Theatre and Theatre Royal

We believe talent and passion aren’t limited by circumstances. That’s why we run a scholarship programme offering £25,000 worth of support annually helping young performers who otherwise might not be able to attend.

Youth productions

Every year students of the Portsmouth Theatres Arts Academy will have the opportunity to be involved in a production. This brings together aspiring young performers for a production to be held on stage either at the Kings Theatre or Theatre Royal. Working alongside a team of professionals, members will learn what it means to put on a show and share the spotlight with fellow students.
