Relive that 80s Portsmouth clubbing nostalgia with this new show from Downtown Pompey!
The brand-new show Sticky Floors and Palm Trees from Downtown Pompey will take you right back to that nightclub dance floor! This abstract clubbing show aims to display the memories of 80s club goers through an immersive experience. Using 4 different characters based on a version of true stories, this show portrays a variety of different elements comparing 80s and modern-day clubbing.
“In a nightclub you can be anyone you want to be and that was very poignant in the 80s. How can we hold on to the heritage of what nightclubbing used to be? It’s people’s memories that should be kept alive.” The Fabulous Josh of Downtown Pompey discussed the initiative behind the show and how the company wants to recreate the irreplaceable memories for those that got to experience an 80s dance floor first hand. For the younger generation of modern-day clubbing, this is a chance for you to experience the memories you’ve heard people speak about, an unmissable experience.
This show, as well as taking you back to your favourite 80s club, features drag queens, movement artists and elements of cabaret. With the use of immersive performance and high creative integrity, the company believes with all these unique forms coming together Sticky Floors and Palm Trees will be a show unlike anything Portsmouth has ever seen before.
Sticky Floors and Palm Trees will be performed at The New Theatre Royal Portsmouth from the 30th January until the 1st February. Tickets are available through the New Theatre Royal website now!
